Poetry update

Mortality
Yesterday, 18 March 2009

he keeps himself busy

upholding the image

of agelessness until

his aging body buckles

under the weight of his ego

and stress fractures

across his memory

erode the denial

of his mortality

Angry words
Tuesday, 17 March 2009

angry words circle

like a murder of crows

in a cloud filled sky

Beauty is
Monday, 16 March 2009

Beauty

is in the creation

of ground art

when the first drops of rain

create blossoms

in the dust

Leaving
Sunday, 15 March 2009

Leaving

he left in stages

of quiet resignation

the passion of youth

having ebbed

to a deeper love

as his hand slipped from hers

she held tight to his heart

throughout the dark night

of his departure

Nurses in training
Friday, 13 March 2009

nurses in training

theoretically correct

pass by in a gaggle

their authority swinging

from lanyards of importance

Transience
Thursday, 12 March 2009

in the hospital waiting room

one child squeals

in unrestrained joy of life

and we shiver

in the collective knowledge

of its transience

Western General Foyer (ii)
Wednesday, 11 March 2009

at the entrance

to Western General

smokers in hospital gowns

inhale into relapse

Western General Foyer (i)
Wednesday, 11 March 2009

he sits

scratching idly

at the husk of his life

unaware of his own demise

while his wife

in age old tenderness

pats his hand

in remembrance

of a life shared

Western General
Wednesday, 11 March 2009

I passed him into your care

and he went

in confused obedience

to the mispronunciation

of his name

our goodbye left hanging

in the busy foyer

where I sit

and wait

the long hours

for the call

to take him back
