the magistrate wearies
of the same old stories,
excuses and creative alibis
social conflict paraded
beyond the apology and handshake
of a more civilised era
spite unrestrained
fills the barristers' pockets
litigation unrestrained

This is so true Merlene, especially your last stanza. A workman was injured in my house last year, and he duly sued. When I said to the insurance company rep that I felt sorry for the man, he was hurt after all, the rep said, 'don't, he's going to have a nice holiday at your expense'. But not as nice a holiday as his lawyers, I'm sure!
