Author Blog Challenge # 23

If a Hollywood agent were to come knocking on your door with an offer to turn your book into a movie and told you that you could call all the shots, who would you have direct and star in it? Write the first paragraph of Roger Ebert’s review of your film.

Hm! I can answer the first question of the first part without any hesitation. It would have to be Phillip Noyce, Australian director of The Bone Collector, Salt, and The rabbit Proof Fence amongst others. I have no idea who I would want to star in it, as it would need several actors to cover the ages 0-17. It would have to be an Australian actor/s though to get the accent and dialect right - one can never forget Meryl Streep's terrible take on the Australian accent in Evil Angels - wonderful acting, shocking accent.

Not being too familiar with the work of Robert Ebert, and not wanting to assume to know how he might write the review, I offer the following:

THE LITTLE MONGREL
The title of The Little Mongrel suggests, I think, that the story is about a stray dog and this movie is a metaphor of this as it opens with the birth of Merlene, and her mother leaving her behind as she leaves to live her own life, leaving in such haste she fails to properly sign the consent to adopt papers.  This marks the beginning of the many separations in the child’s life, with more to follow when her adopted mother places her of a home for troubled girls, although it would appear the mother is the more troubled, or even delinquent, of the two.  From when the child is quite young, the adopted mother predicts nothing but failure and trouble for her, and then sets out to fulfil her own prophecy through manipulation of the truth and devious back play.

  1. I didn't even attempt to do the review part. Sounds like a really interesting story (from your mock review). :)

I also cringe at the Merryl Streep accent, among others!
