Draft #4
If she ever thought about him
and she tried not to,
for it reminded her
of the unravelling of her youth,
she supposed the attraction
had been in his daring,
his defiance of convention,
an attraction that faded
with the onset of parenthood
and responsibility beyond self
a bigger world
than the ego
of inexperience
understanding too late
the only risk taken
had been in choices she’d made
of her own making.
I really appreciate you taking us through this process, Merlene. It really is very interesting and a rare insight into one writer's drafting process. I love your use of photos/images to accompany your posts.
