Tankas for April

April has been a low creativity month for me and I don't feel I've met the Tanka challenge very well. The following poem has been formed by linking three tankas and I've selected this as an example of this month's challenge. I hope May is a more satisfying productive month for me, when I'll be concenrating on the Roundel form of poetry. Thank you everyone for your messages and comments.

He loves her, he loves her not

She spends every day
in the shadow of the sun
pondering on life
she strips petals from daisies;
he loves her, he loves her not.

Petals lost to rain
broken blossoms of lost dreams
scattered in the grass
at the lowering of the day;
he loves her, he loves her not.

She spends all her nights
seeking guidance from the stars
on past decisions
and opportunities lost;
he loves her, he loves or not.

He loves her, he loves her not

She spends every day
in the shadow of the sun
seeking an answer
she strips petals from daisies;
he loves her, he loves her not.

Golden tears

Yellow roses bloom
long after Summer has past
the garden silent
waiting for her love's return
as Autumn sheds golden tears.

Lost words

on a winter day
sentences in suspension
melt away as clouds
words frozen in time, unheard
until released by the thaw

Colours of school days - a tanka

colours of school days
return on winds of autumn
shades of gold spattered
against a backdrop of green
beneath a uniform grey

Lost words

words melt from my mind
elusive as candy floss
caught in a light breeze
strands of anticipation
move further beyond my reach

Joy

small children, heads bowed
giggle into grubby hands
unbridled laughter
erupts from between fingers
in a prayer of joyfulness

Beyond the glaciers

beyond the glaciers
in the freezing arctic seas
ships, frozen in time
await the return of men
snowblinded in hope of fame

Seasons change

in autumn garden
green gives way to warmer tones
the patchwork duvet
a random quilt of nature
conceals the summer garden

Daylight savings

turn the clocks backwards
to a confusion of time
an earlier start
to a day starting later
puts my account in the red

Waking

Today I awoke
On the darker side of dawn
Dream interupted
I add words to images
Of the time before waking
